Real Estate Agent or Secret Agent???

Secret Agents...they don't just work for the government! I always find it interesting that there are so many myths about being a real estate agent-I hope to uncover them in this blogspot. There are secrets I want to share, but they are secrets for success that anyone can apply to any job or self-employed business.

Secret #1-Be passionate about what you do for a living! For me my job has never been about money, it's a productive side of me that is satisfied every day. I used to think it was the creative side of me that needed to be nurtured, but having access to information feeds my thirst for knowledge on a daily basis. Some thrive on learning about genetics, or saving people from a burning building. I'm blessed to know that I enjoy information at my fingertips! "Let your fingers do the walking" was my favorite TV commercial back in the day...before the personal computer revolution. Now I use whitepages.com on a weekly basis!

I took a test once to see what I should be when I grow up....after 2 years of college, 4 children, and 18 years of marriage. WOW...the test showed that I should be a head librarian or a philologist-anyone ever heard of that degree? I hadn't! Well, I looked it up on the internet and took a look at the cost (time & money) of the 8+ years I would spend in school and looked at the accomplishments of others who pursued that path. Aside from J.R. Tolkin, some university librarians, and some museam curators; real estate agents kept popping up-with degrees in philology, mind you! Not only were agents highly skilled linguists, poets, writters, and researchers, but I also found artists, musicians, and all kinds of business degrees in the profiles I saw online. Online research and working while earning credit hours in real estate classes were the perfect fit! Not to mention the ability to have loud days once in awhile and show my passion in various degrees!

The best advice I received at this point...when I felt the passion...was to be a real estate assistant and to "get my feet wet". I'm so glad I did. I saw up close and personal the ins and outs, did the grunt work, and knew that this was a career I could pursue and a job I was passionate about! There are a lot of jobs I'm competent in, but this is one that I'm always learning something new everyday!

More SECRET Sharing to come!
